Inquire out loud

The Big 6 is an information AND technology skills teaching approach we are currently using in Grades 3 and 4. There are free lesson samples and other great bits of information on the website! Including how to use Glogster for the teaching of Big 6 skills!

Again a list of worth taking a look blog – mainly Literacy – Arts

The learner profile attribute we are developing during Changing Planet is THINKER (and inquirer, and reflective) and the transskills we are working on are THINKING SKILLS (in particular Acquisition of Knowledge, Comprehension and Application).

This all made me think more about THINKING and how I would really like the learners in my class to start learning to think more for themselves. It was with great surprise then this morning when I came across this post by Henrietta Miller of Classroom Chronicles.

The idea here is fantastic, it is RELEVANT, it is an element that would be fantastic to add to our classrooms.

This would work for the classrooms as well as the specialists (Italian, which could be in collaboration, as answers could be in both languages! Also Art, Music, PE…. ).

So now I am thinking of using STUDYWIZ and the blogs on there next week. Would it be possible to pose a question like this on a Studywiz classblog run by the teacher, and students comment? Would it be easier with a private WordPress blog? What do you think?

And also, what would be an easy way to start this? Would this work with Paper Blogging too? –> Actually, I think this would be fantastic with Paper Blogging! We could pose a question and ALL classes could reply!

I LOVE the paper blogging idea. Although I was talking to a mum/engineer yesterday and we were both agreeing on fact that we don’t like seeing our kids on the computer – no matter what, we were both stating, that is our future. She thinks that in the future we won’t even go to the doctor – we will stay at home, with our web cam and doctor will tell us what to do, then we will contact a pharmacy on line and the post will do the delivery. Basically she was confirming what we keep saying – tech is all around us and is constantly updating. What we can do is to give our children basic knowledge and the skills they will use in the future whatever software will be! Whether we agree or disagree with it! What do you think?
